Sallie Buck
Commercial Sales Representative – Marceline, Missouri
My current position at Walsworth is a sales representative for the commercial sector. I work directly with clients and prospects, typically taking specs for projects over the phone or email, sending an internal request for quotation to generate a formal offer, and then contacting the client or prospect for a quote a few days after receipt. I keep in touch with them to answer any questions and help with details until the order gets to us for production. Since I have always worked in the commercial department, I was customer service manager for six years, worked in costing and in the first position in commercial marketing. Before my full-time job, I worked in many production areas during the summers between my university years. This included the bookbinding department as well as some departments that no longer exist – typesetting, pasting, proofreading and plate making.
My daily work consists Calling a list of customers and prospects just to keep in touch Sending RFPs to Estimating to create price quotes Working with the scheduling team for shipping appointments Speaking to the customer service team to get the status of live jobs , and callbacks on any leads that come my way. My goal with those first calls is to convince them that Walsworth is the best fit for them to produce their jobs.
In view of Aside from my “adult” jobs, my time has always been under pressure and always at Walsworth. May 15thth this year was my 49thth anniversary in the company. (YES, I started as a kid!)
As a college student, it was important to earn money for the next school year, so my employment at Walsworth during those summers made me start working here. After graduating from college, I was offered a full-time position at Walsworth, which I accepted with the intention of eventually moving to the “big city”. This “big city” move for me was from my hometown of 138 people to Marceline of 2,200 people.
I love my job and the day-to-day interactions with my colleagues, people from other departments, and supporting these prospects with suggestions for their projects. Many phone calls are made with a first-time publisher and help them with details they need to know. I enjoy that sense of satisfaction in providing them with the guidance and encouragement that will help them make informed decisions.
I’m not a coffee drinker but if I had a personalized champagne flute it would say: “I love Mondays.” There’s something about a fresh start to a new work week and that “good feeling” after accomplishments on Friday.
have goals Completing tasks every day and crossing them off my “to do” list is my daily motivation, whether at work or at home. Also, being with my work family is a plus.
For a long time, I was a fan of New Year’s resolutions – I love the challenge! Like many others, I haven’t always made it through the year, but there are a few that I haven’t just made it through for a year, I’ve persevered through them. My longest time has been giving up and counting coke (coke and pepsi) for 43 years!
i was raised on a farm not far from Marceline with five siblings and credit a good work ethic from that farm life. My remaining three siblings are in the area, as are six nieces and nephews and more next generation little ones.
I enjoy it outside of work Traveling and am overdue for a trip to Las Vegas, one of my favorite vacation spots. A few trips abroad were very enjoyable, particularly a river cruise on the Rhine. Additionally, my college roommates and I have managed to keep in touch and over the past 20 years we’ve taken quite a few mini-vacations together, ranging from a one-day get-together at one of our houses to a short vacation. We look forward to our trip to the Savannah/Hilton Head area next month. My other interests include walking with a goal of 20 miles a week. The treadmill works in the winter months, but I much prefer walking outside.
I gave it up a few years ago, but I worked a part-time job at Wal-Mart that took up most of my free time. I’ve always had an interest in retail so I applied and was hired for a 3 month holiday stint from October to December. I stuck with it and 15 years later I had this retail thing out of my system.
Walsworth was a great contribution to my future that provides long term full time employment, an investment plan, insurance coverage and the opportunity to travel and meet some great people. As the largest employer in the county, Walsworth has provided employment for many people throughout its 85-year history and offers many opportunities for advancement. Locally, the company supports many organizations, including the Community Chest and the Rotary Club, both of which give back to the community.
I enjoy being Member of Marceline Rotary Club, Community Chest, Downtown Marceline and Walsworth Community Center. I’m also in my eighth year on the Marceline City Council. It’s great to be a part of all these organizations and groups that give back to the community in so many ways.
I have many great memories during my time at Walsworth. So many employees and customers are really my friends. I appreciate the time I have had with the company and plan to complete my career at Walsworth.
