CAR CEO Michelle Mills Clement joins Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority Board

Chicago Association of REALTORS® CEO Michelle Mills Clement has been named to the board of directors of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA). Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the appointment in a statement this week.

Founded by the Illinois General Assembly, the MPEA works to bring trade shows, conventions, and other public events to the city. The company operates out of the McCormick Square campus.

With Mills Clement on the board, Lightfoot believes the MPEA will be more equitable and inclusive. “Michelle Mills Clement fought tooth and nail for justice and anti-racism in the real estate industry in Chicago and beyond,” Lightfoot said. “Her vast industry experience and commitment to social and economic justice have made her one of the most inspiring minds in her field.”

Jeffrey Bethke, MPEA Chairman and CEO of Ingenuity Advising, also expressed his delight at the addition of Mills Clement. “As a leader throughout her career, her focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion and anti-racism in real estate will provide important experiences and insights,” he said.

Mills Clement is also an advocate for fair housing. She outlined this platform to Chicago Agent early last year, reflecting on CAR’s official apology for maintaining and supporting segregation policies. In her column, Mills Clement encouraged agents to expand their networks and take advantage of fair housing education courses.

Mills Clement was named to Crain’s Chicago Business’s 40 Under 40 list and to the Swanepoel Power 200 list. She was also the winner of Chicago Agents’ 2021 Agents’ Choice Award as CEO of the Association.
MPEA CEO Larita Clark concluded in the statement, “Michelle Mills Clement will provide thoughtful insight and experience to the Board.”
